Azot-2 OOO (a subsidiary of Azot KAO) commissioned a liquid carbon dioxide unit with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year. ‘Azot-2’ produces liquid acid from carbon dioxide (CO2), a by-product of ammonia synthesis at Azot KAO units.
‘The launch of the new production facility has reduced the amount of gaseous emissions of the enterprise, turning them into a useful product. Liquid carbon dioxide produced by Azot-2 meets the quality standards required for food products,’ the company explained, noting that major producers of carbonated drinks in the Russian Federation have already included Azot-2 in the list of their liquid carbon dioxide suppliers based on the results of audits.
In addition, the company has completed the construction of a production building for the engineering and design centre, investments in the project also exceeded RUB 1 billion. Commissioning of the facility will increase the production capacity of the Engineering and Design Centre, which was established in 2022 on the basis of Azot's repair and mechanical shop.
‘With the introduction of sanctions, when urgent repairs of production equipment involved in the technological process occurred, the plant had problems due to the lack of imported spare parts on the market. By now, Engineering and Design Centre practically covers Azot's needs in parts for imported units. Besides, the production of complex chemical equipment for the whole group of companies is being mastered here in parallel,’ the company explained.
At present, the list of the Engineering and Design Centre products created under the import substitution programme includes more than 50 items, each of which undergoes control, testing, diagnostics and product certification in accordance with the technical regulations of the Customs Union.
