Azot KAO
Azot KAO was visited by the head of the city Dmitry Anisimov, representatives of the city administration and mass media. The main agenda of the meeting was specific measures taken by the enterprise during unfavourable meteorological conditions and environmental projects of the enterprise.

During a tour of the production site Azot KAO Technical Director Sergey Kondratyev told about the modernisation of production and answered numerous questions about the implementation of measures in the field of environmental protection.

It should be noted that the work of the enterprise is strictly regulated and takes place within the framework of environmental legislation and comprehensive environmental permit. During periods of adverse meteorological conditions in the city Azot operates in accordance with the approved ‘List of measures to reduce emissions of pollutants during adverse meteorological conditions’. Including load reduction, for example, caprolactam production is now operating at 50% of capacity. In case of unfavourable meteorological conditions of the 1st degree of danger, the shops reduce loads by 10-15%. Environmental control is being strengthened: emissions from industrial sources are constantly monitored, as well as regular air quality measurements at the border of the sanitary protection zone and in residential areas.

Since 2006, Azot KAO has been operating an environmental management system certified for compliance with the requirements of ISO 14001 international standard.

- Azot KAO in Kuzbass is one of the first and main participants of the federal project ‘Clean Air’. Today, as part of the project, we continue to implement the ‘Reconstruction of nitric acid production units with conversion to low-temperature selective purification’. Upon completion of the first stage of the project in 2026, the total amount of emissions will be reduced by 36% compared to 2022. The reconstruction will also allow to exclude carbon monoxide emissions from AK-72/1.2 units and reduce the total amount of carbon monoxide emissions at the enterprise by 57 % in relation to 2022. The reconstruction will be fully completed by the end of 2027. Investments in the project will amount to about 5 billion roubles," said Sergey Kondratiev.

He also demonstrated how the company's specialists monitor emissions in real time. This can be done by automatic control systems, which today are equipped with 10 out of 12 main emission sources of the plant.

In addition, on a permanent basis the enterprise carries out activities from environmental monitoring to waste transfer for recycling, disposal to specialised organisations, planting seedlings at the plant and in the city, making an invaluable contribution to the restoration of bioresources of water bodies.
