On 31 May in Kemerovo there was a grand opening of the pedestal "To Emperor Alexander III" with the participation of the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev.
The ceremony was attended by Acting Governor of Kuzbass Ilya Seredyuk, participants of the preforum of the Eurasian Women's Forum in Kuzbass "The Role of Women in the Development of Industrial Regions in Modern Conditions" and representatives of Azot KAO.
Emperor Alexander III is considered to be the initiator of Siberia's industrial development. With his decree on the construction of the "Great Siberian Way", the Russian emperor initiated the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway, thus beginning the development of Siberia. This fact determines the place of installation of the new monument - the territory near the Kuzbass Territorial Administration of the West Siberian Railway, located on Pritomsky Avenue.
The sculpture is made of natural bronze in the workshop of Zurab Tsereteli. The total height of the composition together with the pedestal is 15.5 metres, which is almost the height of a five-storey building. The figure itself is more than 5 metres high and weighs 12 tonnes. It stands on a natural granite rock weighing 79 tonnes. It was specially delivered to Kemerovo from Karelia for the installation of the pedestal.
"We all see that in recent years the capital of the region has been noticeably transformed, and we are glad that our company is also involved in this. We supported the initiative to erect a monument to Alexander III because he was a prominent figure in the history of our state, who left a significant mark that influenced the development of our country. And we want our younger generation to know the history of Russia and to be brought up on such bright examples," said Andrey Vishnevsky, General Director of Azot KAO.
The inauguration of the new sculpture ended with the song "Russia" performed by the vocal group "Octava" and the First Men's Choir of Azot KAO.
